Bogota is the high altitude capital of Colombia. This city served as our entryway to Colombia. Three of the main things of interests we visited here were the Bolivar square, the Gold Museum and the Monserrate.

Bolivar Square

The Bolivar Square is the main square of Bogota. It is located in the heart of historical area of Bogota. It hosts lot of cultural and social events. The place is too crowded and filled with vendors, and birds. We spent around an hour in this area and walked to Gold Museum which is close by.

Gold Museum

The Gold Museum is one of the must see attraction here in Bogota. It has a collection of pre Hispanic gold work (red indians/ local tribes) and other metal alloys in rooms spread over three floors. It is definitely one of the largest collections of gold work across the globe.

We walked all the way from Gold Museum to Monserrate funicular station. It took us around 15 mins but path was beautiful and worthwhile. The funicular ride was quick and took us to the beautiful peak of Monserrate. The views of Bogota city with neighboring peaks is breathtaking. The elevation is close to 10,000 feet! This place also provides opportunity for bird watching as Colombia is rich in bird biodiversity. As we had only a days time here in Bogota, we wrapped up our day with this visit before heading to Salento via Pereira the next day.
