St John US Virgin Islands

This small Caribbean island is part of US Virgin Islands and has perhaps the most scenic tropical beach in U.S terriotry:Trunk Bay. We stayed at Westin St John for 4 nights to fully enjoy the beautiful locales.

We took a flight from Puerto Rico to St Thomas and reached Red Hook Ferry dock through a taxi. The ferry from Red Hook takes about half an hour to St John.

The dock in St John itself was colorful, rustic and very inviting.

From the dock we caught a colorful taxi to the Westin. Infact all the Taxis here are colorful and 4WD trucks to tackle undulatingand hilly terrain of the island.

The main thing to do in the island is island tour along the road which encircles the island. First stop was vista point overlooking Cruz bay and Westin Hotel/Beach.

Next stop was vistas showing Caneel bay and the lush scenery of the island.

Caneel Bay itself was next. It is inside Caneel Bay resort and access is somewhat limited to non guests(you can visit/enjoy the beach but no chairs/umbrellas allowed)

Caneel bay also has ruins of old Sugar mills. Sugar mills were the mainstay of the island in colonial times.

Then we made quick stops at Hawknest bay.

Trunk Bay, the legendary beach was next. This beach is part of the Virgin Islands National Park and there is a small fee for day use.

The beach is absolutely gorgeous. Undoubtedly the best beach in U.S terriroty and the second best beach we have visited in our worldwide travel(Bora Bora is the nly one above this).

Waves are gentle and sand white and supersoft. We enjoyed the water a lot.We came to the Trunk bay again th next day to relish the scenery more. This is a place worth visiting many times.

Towards the end if the island road is Anaberg Sugar plantation remains. A piece of colonial history. The vista point also showcases beautiful Maho bay which has less crowds and a lagoon like topography with mild waves.

Westin St John

The great Cruz bay which is exclusive to Westin guests in itself is stunning. Since we had 4 full days at the Westin, we enjoyed the Virgin Pina Colada and tropical fruits in a cabana close to our room which faced the bay(just a few feet away). This was a truly memorable stay and we headed next to St Thomas for a 3 night stay at the boutique Mafolie Hotel.
